UOW Malaysia KDU is part of the University of Wollongong Australia’s global network, but has a long history of providing accessible, quality, tertiary education to Malaysia, and the surrounding regions, as KDU college and university colleges. Established in 1983, KDU was Malaysia’s first purpose-built private college that provided opportunities for Malaysian youth to pursue high-quality overseas tertiary education in a local setting.

Riding on the success of the Damansara Jaya campus, a second campus in Penang was established in 1991. In August 2010, KDU College Damansara Jaya was upgraded to University College status – a reflection of its quality programs, excellent teaching facilities, and strong industry partnerships.

KDU University College then moved to its new flagship campus at Utropolis Glenmarie in January 2015. Also in 2015, KDU College Penang was upgraded to University College status. Both university colleges offer a full spectrum of programs, within a contemporary learning environment utilizing state-of-the-art facilities, from Foundation through to bachelor degrees and postgraduate programs. These include programs in hospitality, tourism and culinary arts, game development and computing, communications, creative arts, business, engineering and nursing.

REAL WORLD EDUCATION WITH INDUSTRY

Students at UOW Malaysia KDU’s School of Business are driven to be industry-ready. Essential to their academic learning and experience are our collaborations with industry partners, all designed to ensure our students get an edge above others even before they graduate.

Industry Cooperative Education Program

Industry partnership through adoption of specific module at UOW Malaysia KDU School of Business provides our students an opportunity to network with their potentially future employers and apply classroom learning in real-world situations. In most cases, students will go through a series of training modules – from sessions on financial literacy to retail and customer service insights, people management, and other relevant operational areas. The holistic learning eco-system enables students to create and execute their own business plan, which forms part of the practical student assessment throughout their education journey.

UOW Malaysia KDU Job Shadowing Program

At UOW Malaysia KDU, we value the need for students to experience the real world instead of just the classroom education. Therefore from as early as Year 1 of their Bachelor’s Degree studies or Year 2 of their Diploma studies, students will have an opportunity to experience the daily operations of a company as well as observe first hand of the challenges that are faced in the respective professions. Through UOW Malaysia KDU Job Shadowing program, students will be able to gain insights about the industry as opposed to just reading general job descriptions.

A ROBUST COMMUNITY FOR TALENT DEVELOPMENT

At UOW Malaysia KDU, our students are constantly encouraged to push the boundaries of creativity be it through performing arts and festivals, training young talents in the world of creative arts, or showcasing their entrepreneurial effort.

Beyond Show and Tell

It comes as no surprise that our Entertainment Arts students put on mind-blowing performances every year. Although these annual performances are compulsory in their programme, students learn and garner an experience of a lifetime beyond the scope of performing arts. From stage production, the financial aspects of putting on a show, the publicity to generate and the intensity of the performance, students learn the ins and outs of what it takes to make or break a performance. Some of the productions our students have put up include:

The Little Prince in Everyone

A theatrical adaptation of the famous novella Le Petit Prince by the French author, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, the story follows the life of an innocent child exploring the world and questioning the norms.

Gouden Roos

Gouden Roos tells the tale of a tragic love between a rising theatre star and a street painter in the days of yore.

As UOW Malaysia KDU believes in an all-rounded education, it is crucial that our students are also trained to train others, developing talents as they go along developing their own. As a testimony of the strength and quality of our students, UOW Malaysia KDU was invited to collaborate on training young kids for the International Science Drama Competition 2016. Whilst lecturer Gabbie Ngoh wrote and directed the show, she also handpicked three students who not only assisted her in the direction of the show, but also coached the young actors to their winning Second Prize spot and Overall Best Performer Award, in the finals held in Singapore, beating teams from Thailand, Singapore and Philippines

LIBERAL LEARNING EXPERIENCE

When students first enrol into ADP program in Malaysia, many will be surprised at the general education classes they are required to take in order to graduate. They wonder why someone who wants to be a psychologist or television producer should study subjects that are not directly related to those fields. And that is a reasonable question.

This is simply because a liberal arts education is a broad-based education in which a ADP student studies a variety of different subjects in order to gain a better working knowledge of the world around him or her, rather than focusing and specializing in one specific area of knowledge. It teaches a student on how to think and in turn, how to learn, and prepares them to be well-rounded citizens and lifelong learners, which is important for succeeding in our ever-changing world.

In Malaysia, although a liberal arts education is considered unconventional, ADP has earned global recognition for its dedication to acculturate students with the spirit of inquiry and pursuit of knowledge through critical thinking, openness, and exchange of ideas.

When students complete the American Degree Transfer Program from UOW Malaysia KDU, our expectation is that they will be adolescent scholars, critical thinkers, and effective communicators to embark their journey as global citizens.

High Level of Flexibility

The beauty of a liberal arts education is the high level of flexibility it offers. ADP Students undergo two years of liberal arts study at UOW Malaysia KDU, before deciding on a major in specific disciplines (and are also able to switch their major). They are free to pick a combination of science and arts subjects, depending on their preference.

DEDICATED & EXPERIENCED FACULTY

At UOW Malaysia KDU, students benefit from our faculty of experienced and Professional Accounting lecturers, all of whom carry a 10-year average teaching experience.
