About this course

This syllabus has been designed to meet the requirements of professional bodies while giving students the competitive edge.

We believe a modern approach to the analysis, design and implementation of large-scale systems is essential for a career in software development.

That’s why we offer computer science at SWINBURNE. We offer a focus on application development involving mobile devices and web-based systems, with an emphasis on the design and implementation of effective human–computer interfaces. It’s just a matter of choosing the specialisation that suits your future: algorithms, computer systems, cybersecurity, data science, games development, network design or software development.

Common subjects for all majors include Computer and Logic Essentials, Introduction to Programming, Creating Web Applications, Networks and Switching, Fundamentals of Data Management, Professional Issues in Information Technology, Software Engineering Project A and Software Engineering Project B.

In addition to the subjects offered by SWINBURNE, students enrolling for the SWINBURNE Bachelor of Computer Science degree at INTI also are required to complete five MPU (Mata Pelajaran Umum) subjects, Fundamentals of Computer Systems and Internship (minimum 12 weeks duration).

BACHELOR OF COMPUTER SCIENCE WITH A MAJOR IN CYBERSECURITY

Learn the fundamentals of encryption systems, access control, the internet and get into the minds of malicious hackers and cyber-criminals. Learn their tricks and how to defeat them.

Subjects in the Cybersecurity specialisation include: Development Project 1 – Tools and Practices, Technical Software Development, Network Routing Principles, IT Security, eForensic Fundamentals, Information Systems Risk and Security, Network Security & Resilience, and Secure Remote Access Networks.

BACHELOR OF COMPUTER SCIENCE WITH A MAJOR IN DATA SCIENCE

Learn the statistical methods and tools needed to manage big data sets and the visualisation techniques needed to represent and understand that data.

Subjects in the Data Science specialisation include: Foundations of Statistics, Introduction to Data Science, Object-Oriented Programming, Big Data Architecture and Application, Data Visualisation, Data Structures and Patterns, Introduction to Artificial Intelligence, and Development Project 1 – Tools and Practices.

BACHELOR OF COMPUTER SCIENCE WITH A MAJOR IN NETWORK DESIGN

Learn how to secure information and communication systems and become competent in computer network technologies and security. Study programming, internet technologies, systems analysis and design, database technologies and software engineering, as well as advanced topics in computer networks and security.

Subjects in the Network Design specialisation include: Network Administration, Information Technology Project Management, Technical Software Development, Network Routing Principles, Enterprise Network Server Administration, UNIX for Telecommunications, Design & Management of Networks, and Advanced Switching.

BACHELOR OF COMPUTER SCIENCE WITH A MAJOR IN SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT

Learn how to architect big systems, write phone and tablet apps and produce software that is better than industry standard. Then scale your applications up to the cloud for hacker-proof, robust and reliable software applications.

Subjects in the Software Development specialisation include: Object Oriented Programming, User-Centred Design, Data Structures and Patterns, Software Development for Mobile Devices, Creating Secure and Scalable Software, Development Project 1 – Tools And Practices, loT Programming, and Software Testing and Reliability.

Entry RequirementsApplicants must have one of the following Entry requirements:

INTI Diploma Having completed an INTI Diploma Programme with an average of 60% (CGPA 2.50). Credit transfer up to the equivalent of 1 year. (Other diplomas are subject to university’s approval)
Diploma Diploma in Computer Science/ Software Engineering/ IT/ Information System or equivalent with an average score of 65% Note: Any diploma in Science and Technology with minimum CGPA 2.50 are subject to university’s approval
INTI Foundation Having completed an INTI Foundation programme with an average of 60% (CGPA 2.40). (Average of 60% in English – study must be completed not more than one year prior to commencing study at Swinburne)
Foundation Having completed Foundation programme with an average of 65%. (Average of 70% in English – study must be completed not more than one year prior to commencing study at Swinburne)
STPM Pass 3 subjects in STPM with minimum CGPA 2.80
UEC Average of best 5 subjects – Average of 70% or better including Mathematics. Use the median score of each grade to calculate the average of 5 academic subjects.
