About this course

This programme is designed with reference to the National Competency Standards for Social Work Practice (2010), where standard areas are identified at a specific level to prepare diploma students and working adults to acquire in-depth knowledge of human behavior within the context of family, community and society. It offers students courses that emphasise ethical values and conduct, contribute toward self-development, and build psychosocial skills.

Upon successful completion of this programme, students will have the experience and ability to empower individuals, families, groups, communities and organisations to enhance social functioning and quality of life. They will be part of a dynamic practice that promotes universal values and ethical principles of human rights and social justice. Their work will involve an accountable process of problem-solving based on theories and indigenous knowledge, values, intervention skills and compliance to competency standards of practice.

Experiential Learning
Two 16-week field placement sessions with various organisations, such as Malaysian Care, Yayasan Chow Kit, Pink Triangle Foundation and many more comprehensively equips students with first-hand learning experience under the guidance of industry experts.

Dynamic Practical & Hands-on Training
Frequent practical and interactive training sessions equips students with the skills and knowledge required in various social work areas.

Professional Academics
Learn from a combination of both experienced and enthusiastic lecturers who have worked in specific fields of the social work industry for over 20 years.

Acquire Membership with MASW
Enable professional membership with the Malaysian Association of Social Workers.

Industry Relevant Curriculum
A competency-based educational programme designed in reference to the National Competency Standards for Social Work Practice (2010). Speakers from renowned NGOs, such as Women’s Aid Organisation, Yayasan Kajian & Pembangunan Masyarakat are frequently engaged to conduct sessions and trainings.

Learning Beyond Classrooms
Field trips to locations, such as PPR flats, indigenous villages, welfare homes and more take place to give students valuable exposure and experience, preparing them to excel in field placements and future employment.

*MPU Subjects: The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) requires all students to take Mata Pelajaran Umum (MPU) (i.e. General Studies) within the duration of their studies. MCKL established a series of subjects that different programs need to implement for all students to meet the Ministry’s requirements. Subjects will differ depending on the institution and the level of degree the student is taking.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Other equivalent qualifications recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) or Malaysian Government will be considered on a case-by-case basis
