Programme Outline

This programme aims to meet market needs for students who are competent and proficient in the English language. This programme also equips graduates with the overall understanding and knowledge in the field of English Studies. Upon completion of the programme, graduates should be able to:

  • apply critical and linguistic skills to read, discuss and write on literary and non-literary texts;

  • utilise their thinking skills to analyse, intrepret, and create literary texts;

  • communicate ideas, information and arguments in a manner which is relevant, focused, effective and clear in the English language;

  • utilise effective oral and written skills in negotiation and persuasion;

  • apply research methodology efficiently;

  • evaluate appropriate research sources to incorporate them into well-documented formal writing;

  • engage in continuous lifelong learning to update and expand their knowledge; and

  • uphold professional codes of ethics and high conduct at all times.

Career Prospects

Graduates can find employment as teachers in private schools, lecturers in higher learning private institutions, journalists, editors, copywriters, translators, writers in publishing houses and other vocations related to the use of English language. Graduates who aspire to pursue their knowledge in the field of English studies would be able to further their professional and academic qualifications.

Entry RequirementsApplicants must have one of the following Entry requirements:

Candidates with the following criteria will be eligible to be considered for admission into the undergraduate programme:

(1) Regular Entry Candidates must possess a minimum of:

 Grade C (SGP 2.0) in at least two (2) subjects/ two (2) Principals in STPM / HSC / A-Level; or

 Five (5) grade Bs in UEC Senior Middle III, or

 Other equivalent qualifications recognised by the Malaysian Government

(2) Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) provides an opportunity for individuals with working experience but lack of formal academic qualifications to pursue their tertiary studies. APEL involves the identification, documentation and assessment of prior experiential learning to determine the extent to which an individual has achieved the desired learning outcomes, for access to a programme of study.

Applicants should comply with the following admission criteria stipulated by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA):

 The candidate should be at least 21 years of age in the year of application and possess relevant work experience
